2019 BMC 4-Ball MP SCHEDULE UPDATE 30 SEP 2019
BMC 4-Ball Match Play RESULTS and AWARDS
2019 BMC 4-Ball MP SCHEDULE MASTER (REVISED)
2019 BMC 4-Ball Match Play League APPLICATION
Welcome to Match Play, an enjoyable and more forgiving way to compete in Golf!
Enjoy Golf played as it was from its onset: each player pitting his skills and strategy against the Course, reacting also to the situation of his opponent, competing hole by hole for the lowest score on each. Unlike Stroke Play, where one disastrous shot and failed recovery may ruin your entire score card, in Match Play it will cause loss of only one hole. Team Match Play adds additional forgiveness, as each partner plays his own ball, and the lower score represents the team on each hole. No matter how bad it gets for you, your partner may do well and win the hole for your team. Redemption is available on every tee: if you play well and win the hole, you have canceled a loss. There is always hope until you run out of holes to catch up. Ultimately it does not matter how many strokes were required; the Match is won, tied or lost depending upon the number of holes won by each team.
Please assure that you have some flexibility in your schedule, so you will not have difficulty arranging matches. Sign up as a single, and the Chairman will attempt to partner you with an applicant of similar HCP. Sign up as a team if you already have a partner. Flights will be used to assign teams of similar ability in the competition. Handicapping will follow USGA rules for 4-Ball MP: the player with lowest Course HCP plays at scratch; his HCP subtracted from the other three yields Strokes Allowed to each, which are apportioned to individual holes in order of descending difficulty. Score cards are marked accordingly before play begins.
There will be six rounds of 3 weeks duration, beginning 5/1/2019 and ending 9/07/2019. The Bonus Round extends to the 9/30/2019 Deadline. This allows teams time to catch up on a missed round, or to settle a tie to determine the final winners. Pairings within each Flight are random, and all will be assigned at the beginning of the season. If a match is not completed by the round deadline, that pairing becomes inoperative. All teams with incomplete matches are free to schedule with any team in their Flight to complete that round. If a team plays more than 6 matches, their top 6 scores will be counted in determining awards.
Teams are responsible to arrange and schedule their matches, and eMail results to the Chairman. We encourage teams to play 9 or 18 holes on the new Braemar course. Academy 9 is acceptable if competitors agree. We will continue the policy that teams may choose to play at any USGA-rated course necessary to meet their scheduling needs.
Match Scoring Point System: 2 points to winner, 1 point each to teams in a tie, 0 points for a loss. During play, a hole or entire match may be conceded. Points are awarded only for playing Golf: default or failing to schedule a match nets 0 points.
Winners in each flight will be determined by point totals at season’s end. Awards will be in the form of Credits for merchandise at the Braemar Pro Shop.
